Korean Dramas and Movies

Below is the list of dramas and movies that I have seen for as long as I can remember. They are ranked on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest and 1 being the lowest. I judge in terms of likeness as well as quality and production value. For the ones that I do not remember  they are represented with a “^” and for short dramas and short movies, they will be represented with a “#” depending on which category they fall under. These ratings are ranked in their category.

Korean Dramas That I Have Seen

  • Cinderella Man – I got bored a quarter of the way into the drama. The storyline was missing something to keep the plot moving. I did find the leads to lack chemistry but I did like the plot. (6/10)
  • City Hunter – This is action-packed and just pure amazing! Min Ho is just pure hottt using his smart skills to take down each one who opposes him. Ahahahas! He has so much chemistry with Na Na and they are just so sleek and perfect for each other. Sadly they cannot be a couple in real life. (11/10)
  • Cruel City (AKA Heartless City) – Oh this was cruel and heartless, but I really enjoyed. The leads were kick-ass and the actors did a splendid job portraying their characters. I really liked how the anticipating kept building up and how it kept me on the edge of my seat worrying for Park Sa. However, the drama was a bit confusing so I didn’t get to enjoy it as much as I could have. (8/5/10)
  • Dream High – I loved it! I love all of the couples within the drama, especially Woo Young and IU. The plot was well written and I love the interactions between the students. They are always supporting each other no matter what happens. I love that they all changed for the better. The teachers were also brilliant here and influenced the students so much. I found this a joy to watch. (9.5/10)
  • Flower Boy Ramyun Shop – Many people find this drama quite good but I found only it so-so. I struggled to finish through the last few eps. I just wanted to fast forward it but I didn’t because I like to watch every scene. Ahahahahs. The OTP did have chemistry but only so-so. The storyline was decent but I found that the ramyun shop didn’t play much of a role in the drama, plus it didn’t kick in until late late in the drama. (5.5/10)
  • God of Study – I really like the cast and the plot. I love the different approach to the drama; it seems to deviate away from the conventional K-drama approach. I also really like the chemistry between the students. It was really sweet how effort can change so much. (7.5/10)
  • I Hear Your Voice (AKA I Can Hear Your Voice) – I really enjoyed the build up of the plot development and how this allowed the characters to really have their own personality. I also really loved that the fantasy element does not take centre stage, but rather it allows the leads to further develop their relationship. This drama really shone through and was such a tight watch! (9/10)
  • Fated to Love You – A remake was was decently done but could have been better. I loved that it kept mostly true to its roots of origin, maintaining most of the juices which made me love the Taiwanese version so much. It was nice to see that the OTP had great chemistry since it is them who either makes or breaks the drama. (7/10)
  • Lie To Me – I thought there would have been more to lie, but it fell flat. Also, after the lie was exposed halfway through the drama there wasn’t really anywhere else for the drama to develop and so it was filled with a heap of useless obstacles. I felt that the love between Gi Joon and Ah Jeong wasn’t genuine; instead it felt quite fake. Maybe it is because of their development, they just happened to fall in love in the midst of the lie and so their relationship development wasn’t explored. (8/10)
  • Missing You (AKA I Miss You) – First k-melo drama and it was bizarre! There were a lot of moments where it was just over the top, I mean there is a guy who is still lingering for his girlfriend after 14 years and another guy who is doing everything for revenge. It was intense at times and sometimes it really left me speechless. (8.5/10)
  • My Girlfriend Is A Nine-Tailed Fox – I loved this! I love how they fell in love. It was so cute and adorable. Ahhh, Mi Ho is such a cutie and innocent girl! I still remember how she does the hand thingy, hoi-hoi! I also loved how they included the mystical aspect to this but did so in a way that still allows the drama to be reality. (8.5/10)
  • My Princess – It’s a fairytale but in a unique way. Even though she suddenly had to adapt to her new identity as a princess, she handled it so well. I love how she fell in love with Hae Young and how he found himself falling for her. I especially like how these two actually show their feelings for each other at the start of the drama and how they have to work around their life with their feelings for each other. These two are so cute! I also really enjoyed the chemistry with that the leads had with the second leads. (8.5/10)
  • Personal Preference – Lee Min Ho! I love love love the storyline! Min Ho also had great chemistry with Ye Jin making them such a sweet OTP. I love how he finds himself falling for her and she is such a gullible person. (8/10)
  • Protect the Boss – The ending was the sweetest thing ever! She was a lowly employee who never thought her boss would fall in love with her. She taught him so much and changed him both as a man and as a person. He helped her so much and allowed her to make her way into his heart. Together they make a great couple. They had sizziling chemistry together. I also like that they included that he had panic disorder which allowed her to help and change him. (8.5/10)
  • Secret Garden – One word – amazing! Ha Ji Won and Hyun Bin were both brilliant in their roles. I also thought the plot was very original, creative and smart. From their first meeting to their swapping bodies and finally falling in love with each other, everything was so well written. They make such a nice OTP. They are able to change each other and yet retain their original self. (10/10)
  • Reply 1997 (AKA Answer to 1997) – Refreshing and creative beyond creative! I loved this drama! The way that the events happened and how each ep had a link with a certain them was what I really loved about this drama. The chemistry between the cast were just amazing! Everyone just worked with each other. (11/10)
  • The Heirs/The Inheritors –
  • The King 2 Hearts – This is my first time seeing something like this in any Korean drama and it did not fail to impress. Ahahahas, despite the age difference between the OTP, they appear really match with each other.  Even the secondary OTP did not fail to impress. Too bad Shi Kyung had to die. 😦 I really enjoy how the story behind this and the underlying meaning, bring unity together. (9/10)
  • To The Beautiful You – Sadly, compared to the Taiwanese version, this version lacked a lot of something. I didn’t like the addition of the manager nor did I like the addition of Han Na. I just found that this diverted away from the original Hana-Kimi. The only thing that it retained was the high jumping and dressing as a guy to see her idol jump again. The whole time I found myself rooting for Eun Gyul and Jae Hee. (5/10)
  • Two Weeks – I am really love the tight-pacing that this drama has to offer! Everything was really action packed. I really liked how deeply the different feelings were explored in such a short time frame of two weeks. (8.5/10)
  • You’re Beautiful – The very first Korean drama that I saw and also the first Korean drama where I rooted for the second lead to end up with our lead. I was so devastated for Shin Woo! I found that Park Shin Hye acted well as both the brother and sister. I did however found that parts of this drama a bit too draggy. (8/10)
  • You From Another Star – Loved it! It was amazing and beautiful to watch. I loved the creative storytelling and the amazing chemistry by the leads! Not to mention there were also some amazing chemistry involved! (10/10)
