As the premiere day nears closer and closer, my anticipation rises for the Korean remake of the hit Taiwanese rom-com, Fated to Love You which is also going by the same name with the Korean remake. FTLY (TW) was a drama that tugged at my heart strings numerous times and was really brought together by the chemistry of Ethan Ruan and Chen Qiao En. The writing fell weak at times but Ethan and CQE really held the story together through their adhesive links. Since FTLY (K) is a remake, the writing here is not going to be able to sell it but rather, it will be the chemistry between the leads who can either make or break the drama. Leads Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara have collaborated before with sizzling chemistry but that was over ten years ago but I have my fingers crossed that their chemistry is still here if not more sizzling hot. *fingers crossed*
The leads recently began their first shooting and I can’t express how much it channels the original version. There’s the 2014 touch to it but it really mirrors the original version. It might be too early to speak but from the stills, I really like it. Jang Nara plays the resident post-it girl, Kim Mi Young, running around doing the errands left to her on a sticky note. All her life she has been living behind sticky notes but one day she wins a free trip to Macau who completely changes her life. She has an accidental one-night stand with the bumptious sole chaebol heir Lee Gun, played by Jang Hyuk, who gets her pregnant. Lee Gun is the sole descendant in his generation due to a curse in his family and is constantly pressured by his grandmother to get married and have grandchildren. However, his ballet girlfriend Nam Se Ra, played by Wang Ji Won, has her eyes set on furthering her career and has no plans to settle down any time soon. The news of Mi Young falling pregnant gets to the ears of the elders of both families and the two have no choice but to fall into a contract relationship for the sake of the baby. However, this contract takes a turn on itself as the leads slowly has their hearts falling for one another. Choi Jin Hyuk plays Daniel, the other guy vying for Mi Young’s heart while newbie Choi Woo Shik plays Jang Hyuk’s stepbrother. FTLY is bringing it all with these men!
I’ve seen FTLY (TW) before so I know what’s going to happen so will really have to be the chemistry that delivers. Stills have been dropping of the leadings shooting for the drama and I likey. Nara is all sorts of cuteness with her chic-geek attire while her beau is rocking that cobalt blue suit and side fringe. It’s going to be an interesting watch to see how they fall for each other.
