Ha Na and Won both take a turn in finding love. While Won’s love life takes an uphill turn, Ha Na’s come crashing down again but she has one guy in her life who will stick with her through and through and that is none other than Won. She doesn’t know it yet but her heart is racing for him in a way that feels natural to her, as it always has been, due to their extensive friendship but one thing that she can’t shake way is how she is growing more and more agitated as he advances on in love. Won, on the other hand, has a woman right in front of him who is more than eager to take their relationship up to the romantic level and whilst Won is trying to fall in love with her, his heart is already telling him otherwise.
The Time We Were Not In Love Episode 3 Recap:
Ha Na replays through her moments with Seong Jae and narrates how she has seen these scenes in books before – the moments that doesn’t start with difficult words but instead, with simple words.
Seong Jae has come to pick Ha Na up with an umbrella. He sees an oncoming car and holds the small of Ha Na’s back, shielding her from the splash of water as the car drives by. She continues to narrate that the moment is that of someone protecting her and wonders if that is the sound of love too.
Ha Na is with her bffl eating chicken legs and he keeps breaking her thoughts of love, reminding her not to go overboard with just one umbrella. He also advise her that she should only give a younger guy a slight chance when that guy tells her that he can’t live without her.
Ha Na is strutting happily to work and remembers Won’s words. She finds a cup of hot hot coffee on her desk with a cute encouraging note written by Seong Jae. She wonders how can she not misunderstand when he acts like this? Seong Jae pops by and informs her that he has organised the weekly best sales on her computer. When she can’t seem to find her, he leans in close to her to show her where it is. She excuses herself, avoiding eye contact with him, to calm down her fluttering heart.
Ha Na hears that the design team met with Yeon Gyeong and hearing this causes her more frustration.
So Eun finds herself having to deal with a passenger whose dog keeps barking non-stop. The customer requests that her dog be let out. So Eun explains that this is against regulations but seeing the dog bark continuously plus the non-stop complaints from the other passengers, she goes to let out the dog. However, one of her sunbaes stops her before she is able to do so. Won comes and takes over the situation which involves him walking up and down the aisle to calm down the dog.
One of Won’s colleagues wonders how a picky person like him could become a flight attendant dependant on customer service.
So Eun gets reprimanded by her sunbae for wanting to let the dog out. She explains she only wanted to calm the dog down. Her sunbae warns her that if she goes against the regulations one more she will have to write a letter of resignation. Won happened to witness the scene and tells her to get to upset since regulations are regulations. She replies that she is fine; she knows that she was being scolded for her benefit. He smiles and tells her that she is too optimistic.
Ha Na and her team are trying to chase down Yeon Gyeong but are not getting anywhere.
Ha Na gets a call to meet her other high school best friend, Kang Na Young who shocks Ha Na with news that she has divorced, after only 3 months of marriage.
Flashback. Na Yeong witnesses as Ha Na and Won joyfully make their way home. Once young Won enters his home, Na Yeong signals Ha Na over for a talk. Na Yeong suspects that Ha Na is dating Won. Ha Na refutes that claim but Na Yeong does not believe it and insists on a three-way interrogation, at church. Na Yeong bluntly asks if Ha Na and Won are dating. Ha Na once again refutes that claim. Won tells them that he likes someone else and with that, he walks out. Ha Na and Na Yeong are left wondering who that “someone else” may be.
Na Yeong real motive for meeting today is use Ha Na’s connections to help her reel in some big fish, rich and able men.
Ha Na is out at dinner with Won and brings up her meeting with Na Yeong and asks Won who was the person he liked at the time. He coyly tells her that he doesn’t remember. He gets a call from So Eun and Ha Na tells him to invite So Eun to join them.
So Eun arrives and Ha Na eyes her from toe to head. Ha Na tells her to order whatever she likes because she is shouting today, and So Eun does not refuse. Ha Na is removing some grape-like food off her skewer with her chopsticks but they fly off and hits Won on the forehead. He takes the skewer from her and removes the food for her while complimenting how elegantly So Eun is with her chopsticks skills. So Eun goes to feed her oppa and this time he doesn’t refuse. She sees Won removing the spring onions and wonders if this is because he doesn’t eat them? He replies that it is Ha Na who doesn’t eat them and brings up how during high school she would go “Won, Won! There are spring onions in my stew!” Ha Na bites that this is because he likes to eat spring onions but he replies that he originally disliked spring onions but only grew to eat them because she didn’t eat them.
So Eun is a bit tipsy and comments how Ha Na seems to be the kind of woman who favours work and friendship over work. Furthermore, she seems to be the kind of woman who men find difficult. Ha Na finds herself pondering over So Eun’s comment.
The three are getting ready to leave. Won is going to escort So Eun home first since she is tipsy. He tells Ha Na to wait for him but she tells him that there is no need because her ride – Seong Jae – has arrived. So Eun wonders if he is Ha Na’s boyfriend. Seong Jae takes hold of Ha Na’s hand and confirms the fact. So Eun seems to have got on Ha Na’s nerves when she calls her coy as she didn’t mention before that she has a boyfriend. The two pairs head off in different directions.
Ha Na apologises for calling Seong Jae out at this time but he isn’t fussed and is happy to help. She offers him money for a taxi home but he declines. Someone from the design team happened to witness the entire scene.
Won walks So Eun home and she suggest they go for more drinks. He compliments on the food she serves and learns that So Eun’s grandma is her only living relative. He goes to take his leave but accidentally spills water on himself.
Won heads out of the bathroom when Ha Na calls asking if he safely escorted So Eun home. She then hears So Eun asking if her oppa is okay and her mood sours.
Alone with So Eun, Won finds himself heating up as he imagines her sexily walking up to him. He wakes up from his imagination and this time actually leaves. He reaches home and wonders whether he should call Ha Na but ultimately decides against it.
Ha Na’s colleagues all give her the gaze at work. She runs into Ho Joon who tells her that he has heard the rumour that she is going out with the new young intern. She heads to the bathroom and hears Min Ji gossiping about her with the other design team members. Min Ji comments that at this rate, Ha Na and Seong Jae will going on a business trip soon.
Ha Na heads back to the office and states it loud and clear that she will be going on a business trip with Seong Jae as she tells him to reserve a hotel.
So Eun is pleasing her Mi Hyang unni, bringing in the dishes that Mir likes most and event checking the schedule of Mir’s whereabouts. Won comes home after having eaten at Ha Na’s house, with Dae Bok tagging along. Dae Bok spills the beans to his parents that Ha Na has some competition and the parents make some plans to advantage their daughter.
Won sees a lunch box with peas arranged in a heart shape. Mi Hyang advises him not to lead So Eun on if he isn’t going to date her. He receives a message from So Eun asking him to take her out for food if he enjoyed her lunch box. He goes to type out a response but decides against it.
Seong Jae walks in on Ha Na practicing her confidence to face Yeon Geong and tells her she will do well. He hands her a pile of documents with one stating that Yeon Geong will walk the red carpet at the Shanghai Film Festival. Suddenly and ideal comes up to her mind and she has Seong Jae do her a favour. As they leave to head home, he invites her to see the morning sea if all goes well tomorrow.
Ha Na finds herself laughing with shyness as she replays over Seong Jae’s words about watching the morning sea together as she finds herself in the lingerie section shopping for bras. Won happens to spot her and points her to some junior bras. The two heads home and sees Ha Na’s parents. They invite Won over for dinner.
The parents are clearly trying to win Won over with food. They serve him nothing but the best, much to Dae Bok’s jealousy. They make it obvious that Ha Na is a very available person for him to date.
Ha Na takes Won up to her room. She turns around and there’s an awkward atmosphere that immediately forms between them two but she leaves to get them some fruits.
Won is looking at a sketching of Ha Na at Lee Seung Hwan’s 1997 concert when he gets a message from So Eun wondering her food did not taste good which is why he didn’t reply to her. He responds, asking her what she would like to eat.
The road trip begins. Seong Jae kindly offers to drive but she declines. He rubs the seating, creating a farting noise and asks her if she remembers. She imagines telling him to stop it, in a rude kind of way that she would only use with Won but in reality she just softly tells him to stop it.
Won’s going to cook and tells So Eun to arrive at his house by 5pm.
Yeon Geong (Shin Eun Kyung) is not willing to proceed with the contract despite Ha Na threatening with taking legal actions. That is until Ha Na brings out a pretty black gown paired with a beautiful pair of heels.
Ha Na explains to Seong Jae that she got the idea from the articles he gave her yesterday. She remembered Yeon Geong saying that her dream was to wear a mermaid dress and stand on the red carpet.
Ha Na and Seong Jae go sight-seeing and do some couple-like things such as sharing ice-cream shopping for local delicacies. They are at the beach when Seong Jae asks her if they are going to see the morning sea tomorrow while holding her hand.
Ha Na tells herself that she has been convinced enough by Seong Jae.
Won is quite the chef as he prepares a gourmet pasta. So Eun comments that the pasta tastes like the first pasta she had when she got accepted into uni – a touching taste. It was the first spaghetti she had when she got accepted into uni so it was touching.
Ha Na pretties herself and heads to Seong Jae’s room. She goes to knock but a bellboy opens and lets her in. She walks in but hears Seong Jae talking on the phone, telling the person on the phone not to worry; he is close to the team leader and will be sure to get a permanent position soon. He turns around and sees her. Her first words to him are about how can he be certain that they are close? He steps forward to her but she steps back saying that being nice to her and doing her favours was only to win a permanent position. She calls him desperate but he fires it back at her. She got everything stolen by a younger woman but how easy was for her to hold his hand.
Ha Na leaves, in tears. She narrates how she believed those fluttering moments were sincere but she was instead caught up being happy in those imaginary moments.
So Eun and Won’s dinner is full of laughter. Suddenly So Eun remembers that she forgot to take a photo of the first pasta her oppa made her. He assures that it is okay and that she can take one the next time he cooks for her. He receives a call from Ha Na.
Ha Na wanders the beach at night and tells Won that he was right; she should not have gone overboard over one umbrella. She isn’t confident about love any more. Ha Na finds a swing to sit on as there’s fireworks in the sky. Suddenly it starts to pour but she doesn’t feel the rain. She looks up and sees Won who is full of smiles.
He tells her that he has found her.
Just when Ha Na thought she has picked up the pieces of her love life, they come crumbling once again. After her disastrous relationship with Ho Joon, she barely picked herself up. She fell out of love but Seong Jae was always right beside her when she needed a shoulder to lean on so it is not hard for her to grow feelings for him. He was there when she was vulnerable and protected her when she needed it so it was only natural for her to feel a sense of love emitting from him. He offered her heaps of warm smiles, a hand to hold on to and slippers when she was aching in heels. When he does things like this for her, how can she not misinterpret his feelings?
Ha Na has it tough when it comes to romantic relationships. Ho Joon threw her off just when she thought she was going to walk down the aisle and now Seong Jae comes and breaks her belief in trust. She trusted him and she slowly felt her heart flutter for him but he just used her and her feelings. He only wounded her heart even more and this in turn made her vulnerable in love. It’d be interesting to see how she handles this heartbreak though and how this aligns with the personality of Ha Na that has been established.
What’s really frustrating me right now is how grounded the drama seems to be in regards to Ha Na and Won’s relationship, romantic relationship might I say. While the flashback hovers on their friendship, there is a very strong sense of romance involved and I don’t like how the drama is pushing for that. The plot of the drama is meant to be about their extensive friendship and how they come to realise they are actually in love with one another. I’m not even stating this as a comparison to In Time With You; this is supposed to be what the drama should be revolving around. However, I feel like the drama has poured too much romance out, so much so that it is as if Ha Na and Won already knows that they are in love with each other but are held back from moving forward to add in the filler details. Won is not fully opening himself to fall in love with So Eun because of that grounded romance that he has for Ha Na at the back of his heart. This shouldn’t be the way for the drama to proceed, the drama should be proceeding with their friendship on the forefront because right now the secondary characters are merely here just to fill in for 16 eps.
