2012 End of Year Drama Review

This year I opened myself to different dramas as well as different genres of dramas. There were some ups and some downs and there were some surprises. I haven’t seen as much k-dramas, c-dramas and tw-dramas as I would have liked so my new years resolution for next year is to watch more dramas outside of hk-dramas. As I do not watch k-dramas, c-dramas, dormas/j-dramas and tw-dramas as often as I watch hk-dramas, I tend to be picky with what I watch and usually I would pick up dramas that I find interesting or  appealing to my tastes.

This year I managed to watch some dramas that were really up there as well as a few that fell below the radar. I found myself jumping back into the c-drama bandwagon after a long overdue hiatus and for those that I watched, I found it bombarded with tw-actors/actresses which is probably why I am drawn to them in the first place. Ahahahas! This year, I ventured out into doramas for the first time (yay!) and I was ever so glad I did because this drama literally blew me away and makes me ready to jump into doramas. With hk-dramas, there were a few that I loved but there was only which I loved everything from top to bottom and in between. Even until today I am still swooning over it. I was quite picky with my k-dramas so all in all, I was satisfied with what I watched, though this year with what I watched I find it in high standards of all sorts. Lastly, with tw-dramas, nothing really blew my socks off and I wasn’t overly excited for any one drama so this year for me, I wasn’t too happy with the offerings of tw-dramas when compared to last year’s share. Skip Beat! Episode 15 Recap

After a long three and a half months, this Skip Beat! has finally come to an end. Argh, why didn’t Gong Xi end up with anyone? And what sort of role does Dong Hae even have? He only appears for like two seconds! Argh!

Lian starts to play some sloppy notes that does nothing to resemble Chopin’. Yi Mei realises that although the notes that he is playing are sloppy, wrong and does not resemble Chopin’, it does resemble ‘Cat Steps’. She wonders why Lian is playing Cat Steps because Jia Yue is supposed to be the perfectionist pianist who can play Chopin’. He then gives her a smile that invites her to play along. Continue reading

Skip Beat! Episode 14 Recap

Yay! Episode 14! Finally, some action? Maybe some intimacy?

Lian is having a talk with Coco Chicken. She tells him that every time she talks with him, she feels that he is very serious so he must have thought the loving couple was pretty boring. He tells her no, it is actually the complete opposite and that he wishes them the best. Gong Xi is extremely happy because him saying this allows her to continue on. She ask him isn’t a contradiction that he doesn’t like romantic relationships actually wishes the couple the best? He tells her that because this world is filled with love it’s what makes it perfect. But if she asks him whether he can overcome the barrier of being in love, well, it’s just something that he can’t do. He can’t let anyone become the most perfect person in “here”. She asks him what “here” means. The acting industry? (I thought “here” was his heart…? Isn’t it?) Continue reading

Skip Beat! Episode 13 Recap

Yay! This episode has really picked up from the last 🙂

So Gong Xi has bought Lian an obento box but he just pushes her away. The manager is happy that Gong Xi cares so much for Lian’s and Lian cares so much about Gong Xi’s acting. Ahahaha, the manager laughs and says the more you look at the two, the more they are compatible for each other. Manager Du then lets it spill that Lian stayed up all of last night to watch An Yue’s DVD.  Gong Xi asks him if he isn’t afraid that he will get affected because she is and that’s why she wouldn’t dare to watch it. Lian lets it slip that since she already knows how to interpret the role of Wei Xu, even if she watches it now, she won’t be affected. Gong Xi wonders why he watched the DVD.

Could it be that Lian hasn’t figured out how to surpass An Yue’s Jia Yue? However she pushes that thought away because he is none other than Dun He Lian.  Continue reading

Skip Beat! Episode 12 Recap

Qing Jie tells the reporters that she is very happy to be able to play a role in the remake of Dark Moon. She also mentions that this press conference makes her feel like she has returned to the press conference of Dark Moon 20 years ago.

One of the reports ask Director Xu Fang that many viewers think that the title should remain as the original An Yue. The director bravely answers and all of Gong Xi’s worries about the director disappears.  Suddenly, the reporter informs the director that the original director of An Yue, Yuan Da Zun , is his father. He asks the director why he changed his name. Director Xu Fang struggles for an answer and the overwhelming demand for a response cause him to faint and find himself lying in hospital. Skip Beat! Episode 11 Recap

Ep 11! Yippee! I waited an entire week for this! However, this episode did not do enough to improve from last week.

Gong Xi tells Shang that she never knew he had such talent in making girls to stop crying. However, it seems like that she was the only person that he couldn’t use that talent on… Are you talking about when you were little? She explains that every time she cried, he would only stand and watch. Never did he comfort her once. He tells her that he wasn’t just purposely standing there doing nothing but that he really didn’t know what to do. She tells him that she knows so that is why every time she wanted to cry after that, she would leave to not let him see her sad face. Continue reading

Skip Beat! Episode 10 Recap

Yippee! Throughout this drama, there has been an ep where I have fallen in love with each of the characters and this is the ep when I finally fall in love with Shang! I am so happy! There is so much Shang in this ep! Not that I don’t like Lian (I love Lian!), I just want to see Shang’s participating and Gong Xi’s revenge.

After staring at Gong Xi for so long, Shang still can’t pinpoint that girl in the commercial is Gong Xi.  Meanwhile, Manager Du is wondering when Lian will realise he has fallen for Gong Xi. Hehehehe. Lian thinks about how Gong Xi only entered into the showbiz industry for revenge. Gong Xi has arrived at Shang’s management company and is frustrated that they are keeping her waiting. Lian says in a voice-over directed to Gong Xi “Eventually, there will be one day when you will forget about him. Before that day arrives, as long as you don’t see him again, that will be good.” Continue reading

Skip Beat! Episode 9 Recap

Finally, ep 9 comes out. It feels like foreverrr! I was sort of disappointed though because there was hardly any Shang at all!

All the way from the lift to the car, Gong Xi was looking for a starting line to apologise  to Lian (for trying to ruin Shang’s poster) Hahaha, this reminds me for ep 1 where she rode all the way to a far away shop for a poster of Shang. Once in the car, she managed to get the courage to apologise. He tells her that he doesn’t blame her for revealing his whole schedule to the reporters… However (as expected), Gong Xi intercepts and said that she knows, she going to rip up Shang’s poster will cause people to misunderstand that he hates Shang. Lian tells that that is not it, it is that she didn’t put him as first priority. Lian also tells her that as a manager, they must put all personal feelings aside and put the artist as first priority.  Continue reading

Skip Beat! Episode 8 Recap

After Nan Qing slaps Gong Xi, Gong Xi looks and Nan Qing and remembers Nan Qing telling her to cooperate with her. Gong Xi is ready to return the slap back but she takes a look at Nan Qing and everything drops for her. Nan Qing is crying, she then drops to her knees and looks up at Gong Xi. Gong Xi says the one magic word: ‘Sorry’. Nan Qing just cries but you can see and feel the emotion between Nan Qing and Gong Xi. Continue reading

Skip Beat! Episode 7 Recap

Skip Beat! seem to have come so quickly this week and it is time for another recap. I think this ep has got to be my favourite one yet. Siwon smiles so much! And his smiles make him so pretty! I love it! So, I present the recap of ep 7…

Hearing Shang play the piano,  she tells herself that he is a singer on top of the charts while she is just an unknown newbie. If she doesn’t want to keep suffering from this sort of disgrace, then she needs to step up then she needs to step up onto the same level as him.

After Shang finds out that the chicken is a girl who isn’t from the company, he realises that the girl is Gong Xi. Continue reading
