2014 End of Year Drama Review

2014 End of Year Drama ReviewPhew! Made it on time!

End of year drama reviews are a great way to look back on the year of dramas that was but it is such a pain to write, consisting my me racking my brain remembering the drama and finding the write words to express myself. Writing is no easy task but I write and continue to write because I enjoy doing so. It’s a tedious and meticulous task but it’s a worthwhile one that I have come to appreciate from other bloggers alike. It’s such a nice way to wrap up the year as we head for the festive season as well as look forward to a new drama year. I can’t believe Christmas is just nearing the corner! There were some great dramas this year and that in it of itself is a great Christmas present!

This year was a very busy and time-consuming one for me, with most of my time spent on studying and dramaing being pushed to the backseat. As such, I have been more selective in the dramas that I saw this year. Most of the dramas that I saw this year came from marathoning earlier this month when I finally had a break from studying and it feels really good to be able to just sit and drama and drama and drama without having any worries! Although I only managed to see a few dramas, I did hear a lot of talk about this year’s dramas so I wasn’t entirely kept out of the loop. There were some good, some bad and some which were just plain horrible. But I enjoyed most of the dramas that I picked to watch and that makes me happy because there is nothing more satisfying than to be able to engross yourself in a drama that it is a hit from start to finish. Fated to Love You vs. Fated to Love You

Fated to Love You T
Fated to Love You K
Hi guys! This will be my final post before I hibernate myself and study the heck out of me! I appreciate you guys for understanding and I can’t wait to be back watching dramas again!

Having thoroughly enjoyed both the Taiwanese and Korean versions of Fated to Love You, I decided to write a comparison post comparing the two versions, since I think it will be fun to compare the different aspects and to highlight the similarities and differences between the two versions. I had an unbearably difficult time in deciding how to type of this post which included me backspacing everything that I wrote numerous times. Even right now I am still quite iffy how I should set about on this post! If you have any ideas on how to write these posts (took me ages to write this one!), you should definitely comment and let me know for any future posts! I’m not sure how this comparison post will turn out since I’ve never written one like this but here it is anyways. I hope you guys enjoy this post! If you saw both versions, please leave a comment below letting me know which version you liked better!  Continue reading

My Opinion on Fated to Love You (Korean) Episodes 13-20 (Final)

Fated to Love YouAfter what has been quite a long stretch, Fated to Love You finally ended its run. FTLY was a drama that I had high expectations for even before the drama started filming. I immediately perked up to the idea of it since I whole-heartedly enjoyed the original and I haven’t seen a Korean drama of this genre. I had quite high expectations for it since it is a remake of a drama which I really love. It might have been billed as a remake but it is so much more than just a remake. It forged realistic characters and really brought the storylines alive in way that was filled with charisma. While it does not stand out as a stellar or original drama, what I ultimately enjoyed the most about was its ability to establish itself as being more than just a mere remake. Continue reading

My Opinion on Fated to Love You (Korean) Episodes 9-12

Fated To Love You Usually when I watch dramas, I go into it without much pre-knowledge except for maybe a few lines of the synopsis. I’m not really one for spoilers because I like being hit with the element of surprise so I usually restrain myself from reading or watching anything too spoiler-y. Maybe it is because I have seen the original but for this current airing of Fated To Love You, I have constantly been stalking forums and the official website for every single update about it. These four eps were intense to say the least. A looooot happened in a four eps and in real time, this all happened in a few mere weeks. Weeks, not months but weeks and when you think about it, the different relationships were bubbled and burnt at an uncontrollably fast pace. It’s the closing of one chapter for the fated story, but this is just the start of a new beginning. It will be fate that draws the OTP together once again because they are just fated and meant to be together. Continue reading

My Opinion on Fated to Love You (Korean) Episodes 3-8

FTLYOh, just how I have fallen in love with Fated to Love You cannot be sufficed with words. Prior to the airing of FTLY I was sure I was going to love it and that certainly came around but in ways that didn’t expect. It made my heart flutter in numerous ways and it made my heart ache in several ways. I went into this seeing it as a remake of its Taiwanese sister of the same name but eight eps in and it has showed itself to be so much more than that. It certainly holds the foundations of its sister but it stems in way whereby the originality from its sister is retained while its uniqueness is allowed to foster and override the “remake” connotation that it holds. This should be what all remakes are about – being able to hold similarities yet shine with differences.

Two hours per week of this goodie is not enough for me. I have been all over this and honestly, I can do with a lot more hours. FTLY is such a joy to watch each week. Its craftsmanship is something very beautiful. It’s simple but holds intricate details that one really comes to appreciate. I love its attention to detail and its effortlessly woven in flaws. No drama is without flaws, but it is the way that these flaws are worked with that really embraces the drama. I definitely see that here and this is partly why these eight eps have been such a breeze to watch! Having seen the original one, my fingers itch to make comparisons here and there but I don’t want to do that here because despite the similarities between the two versions, they stand on their own as dramas with their own flavour. I’ll probably do a comparison post later down the track but for now, this post will be about the K-version and K-version only. (: Continue reading

My Opinion on Fated to Love You (Korean): First Impressions

Image and video hosting by TinyPic Popular Taiwanese drama Fated to Love You‘s Korean sister which also goes by the name of FTLY is having a hilarious but banger of a start. It is definitely living up to being a remake but it stands out as being more than just a remake. For me, to differentiate yourself from being a remake is one of the biggest factors to a good remake and even despite the fact that it is a remake, I like to take every drama as its own standalone representative because there are no two dramas which are the same; they might be similar but they are not the same. People who have already seen the original do not need to see another carbon copy just with a different cast. A remake is, on top of everything else, about differentiating yourself and adding your own sparkles to the original to really make it scream out uniqueness. It’s early days but FTLY seems to be doing this, maybe except for the carbon-copy of the title. I like what FTLY seems to be doing; it’s pulling bits and pieces from the original while adding in its own elements which all seem to be working for this remake. Continue reading

Fated to Love You Releases Long Preview

Image and video hosting by TinyPicI was so happy to have woken up to find the a long preview for Fated to Love You pop up on my newsfeed. Time sure does fly quick because before we know it, FTLY will be premiering tomorrow on MBC in the timeslot that was previously occupied by A New Leaf! The cast of FTLY held a press conference yesterday and also released a long preview. The preview is sweet and I just really love the vibes that it is channelling from the original. It looks spot on in taking elements from the original but it has enough of its own touch to stand out from being merely a remake. I like that aspect of it because even though this is a remake, I don’t want to watch something that is a carbon-copy of its sister. The preview sums up the events that will happen in the first ep and things get steamy between the OTP Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara. Despite coming from different socio-economic statuses, each have their reasons for being in Macau but both get a bit topsy-turvy and end up having a one-night-stand. As fate would ensure, a pregnancy happens and the OTP begin their relationship, except in quite the reverse order. Even though I have already seen the original one and know what will ensure, I am very excited to see how this remake will unfold. If things are as good as the preview shows then I will be very happy indeed. Continue reading

New Teasers and Posters for Fated to Love You Draws on the Fluffy Side

I am loving what I am seeing! I really hope that these are signs that drama will be great. Continue reading

Fated to Love You Drops Cutesy Teaser and New Stills

I don’t think I have been this excited about an upcoming drama for quite long while. The very first teaser for Fated to Love You and the official website with never-before-seen stills dropped today and that has just pumped up my excitation levels. The teaser is more like a CF than a teaser because this is a far cry from the drama’s storyline. The teaser features leads Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara sharing a cute bubbly picnic date which is just oh-too-cute for the eyes. He plays the guitar for her and rallies her for a romantic hug on the bridge which is filled with loads of electric energy passing between each other. It’s very cheesy but I really like it for it’s upbeat atmosphere. Continue reading

Fated to Love You in the Limelight with Fondness

As you guys may or may not know, I am super duper hyped up about the upcoming Korean remake of Fated to Love You which was a ratings hit in hometown Taiwan. There’s really no reason not to be since rom-coms are up my ally and there is a great cast behind this to back the story. There’s been quite a few pieces of FTLY news these past few days and I just couldn’t resist but help to continue sharing it! Continue reading
